Happy Father's Day!

Avery had her preschool evaluation review last week. All of the specialists observed her a few weeks ago, got together, discussed her and then met with us. They all think she is a really cute and stubborn (she gets that from her mother) little girl who is delayed in many areas. She was very timid at first but eventually warmed up and played with them. They developed an IEP (individual education plan) for her. Each specialist listed goals that they are hoping she will accomplish by the end of the school year. Every year the IEP is updated. Some of the goals included: kick a ball in a specific direction 3 out of the 4 documented tries, cut a 3 inch piece of paper with scissors, identify 40 objects when reading a book. (She doesn’t have to say the objects, just find them. For example: where is the ball, where is the cat, etc.).  Tim said that once they spend time with her, they will see that she can do more than they originally thought. You won’t observe much watching a very shy, timid girl for 1-2 hours. You definitely need more time with her to see what she can do. She can point to all the areas of her body (mouth, ears, eyes, teeth, belly, foot, etc) but she refuses to do it for anyone really other than Tim and I. Did I mention she is stubborn?

This is my IEP. I hope to accomplish all of these goals by the end of the school year

Hope you all had a great Father’s Day. Avery and I are lucky to have Tim. He has made a lot of sacrifices to stay home most days to watch Avery. Avery painted Tim a picture for Father’s Day. I wrote “Dad” with tape, let her paint over it and then pulled the tape off. She also made him a super cute card/picture at daycare.

How cute am I in this picture?

She made her grandpas a card that said “Grandpa, I love you bunches” and there was a picture of grapes. We made the grapes out of her thumbprint.

Here are the cards I made!

Look at me hard at work. I had a good time painting

Mommy put me down to get something out of the fridge. I had a fit because I wanted her to hold me still. I ended up falling asleep in this position for a 1/2 hour

Eddie, me, Grandpa B and Kaitlin at Grandpa's house

This is my Uncle George. I am scared of him for some reason. He works at my daycare and is sometimes in my class. This is how I am the whole time he is in the class

Grandpa B, Mommy and I. I still need to get a picture with Grandpa S.

Eating a laughing cow cheese. Who is laughing now? Certainly not Mommy. She has to clean me up.

Bawk Bawk!

I apologize in advance for there not being a lot of pictures in this post.

Avery went to daycare one day a week for the past few weeks. The first few days of daycare were rough for her. She was having trouble adjusting. She wouldn’t eat or drink anything for the 9 hours she was there. She would be crying in the corner when I would pick her up. It was heart breaking.

I think she is slowly starting to come around. She ate lunch and a snack and when I picked her up, she was sitting at a table and playing legos with all of the other kids. The teacher told me she even held onto the rope. (They walk in the hallway holding a rope to try to get them to walk in a line). This is amazing because Avery never walks anywhere. She is a diva and wants to be carried everywhere.

This is a pic of what the rope looks like

Avery got some new pets on Saturday. We ended up getting 3 chickens. They have been fun so far. Never in my life could I have imagined getting chickens in Parma Heights. (I always wanted chickens, just assumed we would get them when we moved somewhere with a bigger yard.) But they are completely legal in Parma Heights so our neighbor can’t complain!

Avery is very interested in them but doesn’t want to pet them…yet. Scarlett is the most interested. She loves looking in the crate and watching them walk around. I wanted to document this adventure so I started a new blog. http://backyardchickensblog.blogspot.com/  I am not sure how often I will update it. Avery’s blog takes precedence but I will try to keep up with it.

Look at all the chicks? Can we get one...or 20?

They are so cute! Their names are Daisy, Fluffy and Raven

Look! Look!

This is going to be their new home when they get bigger. Daddy built them a cool house

On this side of the coop will be the nesting boxes. This is where the chickens will lay their eggs.

Happy Memorial Day!

Sorry this is so late. Now that the weather is getting nicer, we seem to be getting busier and busier.

Avery went to her first Memorial Day Parade. We ended up going to the one in Strongsville. She had a such a great time waving her flags and getting candy thrown to her.

We had a meeting with the Parma City School District for Avery to be evaluated for Special Ed Preschool. We were there about 2 hours and they observed her and asked Tim and I questions. We have the "official" evaluation on June 11.There is so much paperwork for us to fill out that I feel like I should just give them the blog address and let them do some research, but of course I won't do that. The preschool can be very beneficial to Avery. There are different levels of Restrictions (see picture below). I am assuming that since she is so delayed, she will follow the most restrictive path (the one to the far right). She will be one of 4 special needs kids and then there will also be 4 non-special needs kids in her class for a total of 8 kids.   The next step up has the same curriculum, just more kids in the class (which means less one on one time). They said its good she is coming in now so then she has 2-3 years to catch up. The goal of this preschool is to have your child attend kindergarten in the "regular" classroom with no restrictions. My mom knows someone who knows someone who sends their child there and they said they are amazing so that gets me excited for Avery.

Avery started daycare 2 weeks ago on a Wednesday. I received a call around 3pm that day saying she had not eaten or had anything to drink the whole day and had a temp of 99. When I went to pick her up, she was laying on a bean bag chair in the corner, her hand covering her eyes and she was crying. It was HEARTBREAKING! I felt like crying right along with her. She went to daycare this past Thursday and they said she was very shy at first but she did open up a little bit after naptime. I was very thankful when I picked her up this time that she was mingled between all of the other kids. She only ate applesauce the entire day and didn't drink anything.... I guess its better than nothing so it looks like we are headed in the right direction. She is in a class with 2-3 year olds and these kids are HUGE compared to her. I am hoping she will learn some cool new things from them.

We had a follow up appointment with Pulmonary on Friday. Dr Carl said she sounded good. We decided to keep her on the flovent because:
1. She just got back into daycare and is likely to get sick so we are one step ahead
2. We will be ahead come flu season this year

Some of Avery's favorite things right now:
1. She loves to take her shoes and socks off, especially in the car.
2.She also likes to act like she is smelling her feet. She thinks its the funniest thing.
3. She loves to stand with her hands folded behind her back, like she is posing
4. She loves to throw her food
5. She loves throwing tantrums about nothing (she is two so I understand)
6. She is super shy and she covers up her eyes all the time.
7. She loves giving Chewie and Lily kisses and now makes a smooch sound when giving them a kiss.
6. Daddy. She cannot get enough. She follows him EVERYWHERE and is his little shadow.

Eddie and I were playing on his swing set

Mmm KFC. I don't know why I said Mmmm when I didn't really eat anything from there.

I loved waving the flags around!!

Sitting with "Cool Cari" (Aunt Cari) and Kassidy while she reads us a book. I have the same face in the next 2 pics when I am being held by other people

Sitting with Michael and Kassidy. They love me! Kassidy was demonstrating her excellent reading skills.

Annnnnnnnnd, I still have the same face. Sitting with Uncle Andy who was in town from Arizona.

Getting comfy

These cherries and my nail polish match!

New formula...Mom says this is liquid gold, or at least costs just as much. Luckily, BCMH covers it for us. I was having some constipation problems (too much info, I know) so they decided to prescribe me the Pediasure with Fiber.

I want to be just like daddy!

I am planting..well more like throwing..seeds into the garden.

Daddy is down for the count

My cousin, Eddie graduated preschool and is going to be going to Kindergarten. I was so excited for him but we couldn't go to his graduation so I made him a sign

Yayy!

Congrats!!

Here are the options for the special needs preschool. They will determine which option is best for me after they evaluate me on Thursday.

I love Chewie...and wearing socks with sandals.

He is my best friend (after Daddy, of course)

Mmmm, candy apples!

The ice cream truck came down our street! I hope to hear that music many times this summer!

Yumm! You would think with all these treats that I would be getting heavy.

Mommy got this chair for me for $5. I love to climb all over it and lounge in it. I had my legs/feet crossed really cute but Mommy couldn't get her camera in time.
