So much has happened in the past couple days, I don't even know where to begin. Avery got to meet her cousins last week. Tim's sister, Cheryl and her husband, Mike, were in town from Maryland with their kids Kassidy and Michael. Avery got to meet them and everyone had a good time.
Avery's 9 month check up was on Wednesday. She is STILL 21 1/2 inches and 11 pounds. I think this girl is going to stay 21 1/2 inches forever. We saw a different pediatrician because ours was out sick I believe. We saw Dr. Eva Love. I liked her a lot. She said she was concerned with Avery's weight but we agreed to say the reason for the lack of weight gain was because she was on two rounds of Augmentin and had diarrhea 4 times a day for two weeks. She asked if anyone ever told us to give Avery a probiotic while on antibiotics and we said no. The antibiotics destroy all bacteria, good and bad so the probiotics put good bacteria back in her body. Since being on the probiotics, Avery has not had any diarrhea. Avery's ear was infected, yet again! She couldn't believe that Avery had at least 3 ear infections since getting her tubes put in April 23. She did a culture and said she would call us back with the results.
Avery came down with a cold, cough, etc and Tim brought her back in to see Dr Love on Friday. She ended up prescribing an antibiotic. We wanted Avery feeling good because her first day of day care was set to be Monday, June 3. Dr Love ended up calling me Friday evening because she said Tim seemed a little overwhelmed at the appointment and she wanted to make sure I was aware of everything.
Today was Avery's first day at day care!
Dr Love ended up calling me at work today and told me that they want Avery to have surgery tomorrow. They said the ear culture showed yeast and a bacteria called pseudomonas aeruginosa. You can read about it by clicking on this link...

Of course I googled it and it didn't look good. They want her to have surgery to go in and clean out her ears really well and possibly take her tubes out. I talked to Dr Anne's (ENT) office and they wanted to see her today and also wanted us to see Infectious Disease.
I ended up leaving work at 12 and my mom ended up coming with me. (Thanks Mom!) I had drive home and get the stroller and then picked Avery up from day care. Her teachers said she did really well. She drank a whole bottle and then took a nap for two hours.
We headed down to main campus and saw Dr. Anne (ENT). She said that she isn't sure that the problems Avery is having is from the tubes being put in. I told her that Avery did not have any ear problems before then. She said she will go in there tomorrow, clean inside of her ears really well and then decide if she should take the tubes out or not. They might also take blood work while she is under anesthesia to check her immunity.
We then saw Infectious Disease, Dr Sabella. My mom and I really liked him. He said that the pseudomonas aeruginosa seems to just be contained to her ears, which is a very good thing since if it goes into her lungs, etc it could be fatal. He definitely seems to think all of her problems are due to the tubes and he highly recommends that they be taken out. He said once the tubes get really infected with yeast and bacteria, it is very difficult to get rid of it. He also said that since the tubes seem to be causing all the issues, that we should see what happens without them. Tim and I (and my mom) agree that we would like the tubes to come out.
Avery is scheduled to check in for surgery tomorrow at 10am. I will post an update once we are home from the hospital.
