Sorry it's been so long since I posted. We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We got to
spend ours with both sides of the family and it was great seeing and spending
time with everyone.
Avery saw her first movie in a theater last week. We ended up going to see The Good Dinosaur. She was a bit scared during the first few minutes because its a huge screen and louder than she is used to but she ended up relaxing and enjoying it. She kept saying "uh oh" really loud throughout the movie and managed to burp during a part it was really quiet. Last week Avery’s cousins, Kaitlin and Eddie slept over.
They had fun decorating cookies, playing hide and seek and reading books but when it was time
to go to bed, Avery started screaming in pain. She was up ALL night. The poor
kids had trouble sleeping because of Avery. I felt horrible but I had to call
my sister to pick up the kids around 7:30am so we could take Avery to the ER.
Right after my sister left, Avery fell asleep from 8-11. When she woke up she
started screaming again so we took her to Fairview because we didn’t know what
was wrong.
They probably thought we were crazy because when we brought
Avery in, she was sleeping and calm and looking like nothing was wrong with her
even though we told them she was screaming in pain a little while earlier. They
ended up doing an ultrasound of her abdomen to make sure there wasn’t anything
wrong with her stomach. She was so good and just laid there the whole time. She
also had a urine culture..I was nervous about the catheter because one time last year
they had trouble getting it in and she screamed and screamed. This time they
brought in a Child Life specialist who helps the child calm down during
procedures and helps them feel comfortable when they are in the hospital. They just make things less scary for the
kids. This Child Life Specialist went and got an ipad and played an episode of
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while the nurse inserted the catheter. Avery cried for a
minute but that was pretty much it. Its amazing how good she was when we were
there. Both the ultrasound and urine were normal. A urine culture was sent and
that came back normal the next day. They couldn’t find anything wrong with her
except possibly her teeth/mouth. They ended up giving her motrin and an
antibiotic in case she had an infection in her mouth. It was crazy when the
doctor told Avery to open her mouth and she opened it right up. She did not do
that for us or for the dentist.
I ended up calling the dentist's office and there was an opening for her procedure on Friday, Dec 11. I said we would take it because I was scared Avery's teeth were causing her all of these issues. The scheduler said the dentist would call me on Tuesday with instructions. Monday night, Avery developed a fever of 100.5 and a cough. We kept Avery home from school and daycare on Tuesday and Wednesday. I hadn't heard from the dentist on Tuesday so on Wednesday I called the office and was told Avery wasn't even on the schedule. I said well I have an email saying she was going to be. I then told the scheduler that she was on antibiotics and had a cough and fever. The scheduler said I would have to call back two weeks after she finished the antibiotics and had no fever. I asked if I could just schedule something now for a few weeks out and she said no. I then asked if I could leave a message for the dentist and she said that no, because the dentist would just end up having her, the scheduler, call me. We were both getting upset with each other so I asked to speak to someone else and she said someone would call me within the hour. No one ever called me.
On Thursday the dentist called me to apologize for what happened with the scheduler and appointment. We discussed Avery's symptoms and she said she was worried about the cough/congestion because anesthesia won't operate. They usually don't operate if a patient has a fever either. She said she was going to check her schedule and try to get us in on Dec 18. I am supposed to call her towards the beginning of next week to update her on Avery's current health. She also said that Avery's teeth are really bad and she would most likely need many of her teeth extracted. I asked if they put anything there like a spacer or fake tooth and she said no. I am worried if Avery needs a lot of teeth pulled that she won't be able to eat. I read an article about a 4 year old who had 20 teeth and went into surgery and they pulled 16 of them. I am very worried that this is how its going to be with Avery and that she wont have any teeth until she starts getting her adult teeth. I am praying they will be able to cap some of them instead of pulling them.
Today Avery is still sick. She FINALLY got rid of the fever but has a bad cough. We took her in to the pediatrician's office and they listened to her breathing and she got a chest xray. Luckily the xray looked good. They decided to prescribe her a different antibiotic..augmentin. I am NOT excited about this because this prescription is actually marked in Avery's medical chart as her being allergic to it. She isn't necessarily allergic to it but it does give her horrible diarrhea and diaper rash. They advised us to have her start taking probiotics first and also put Vaseline on her butt to help prevent the diaper rash from starting.
Putting ornaments on my tree that decorated my room when I was in the nicu
Do you want to help me decorate the tree?
This is what I made Daddy for his birthday...It says "I Love U". If you only knew how many pictures Mommy had to take to get this finished.
