Avery's Adventure: Guess Where We are Going...

Avery was sick two weeks ago with a cough and slight temperature. She ended up missing school/daycare the whole week. She then developed a HORRIBLE diaper rash. She wouldn’t sit down or let us carry her because our arm would be against her butt. We ended up trying everything under the sun to help soothe her. Then, I turned to where I always turn to for advice….facebook. We first gave her a bath with some baking soda mixed in the water. We then pulled her out of the tub and let her butt air dry for a few hours with no diaper on. Multiple people recommended mixing aquaphor and Maalox together. The Maalox would neutralize the acidity. We tried that for half a day and I decided to try Resinol. I read all about it on amazon. Seriously, look at the reviews. I called around to pharmacies and no one had it behind the counter but they all said they could order it. Avery was in pain and I didn’t want to wait a few days for it. Then my friend Leanne, (the mom to Avery’s best friend, Aria) said she had some. The next day Avery finally would sit on her bottom and let us carry her. I’m not sure if it was the resinol or just time but after a few days she was better.

This past week, I noticed there was gunk in her ear. Tim thought it just looked like wax so we tried hydrogen peroxide and it was good for a few days and then it came back. Tried it again and the same thing happened. On Sunday I noticed there was green in her ear so I knew it was infected. This is her first ear infection since she got her original tubes placed in 2013 (and had nothing but infection after infection after that until the tubes were removed a month later). I took her to express care and she ended up having a temperature of 100.0 and a double ear infection. She was acting completely fine, not pulling on her ears or anything. She was prescribed ear drops (5 drops twice a day in the oozing ear) and then an oral antibiotic.

Guess what!?! We are going to Disney World! I am soooooo excited. Tim has never been there before so he just doesn’t understand my excitement. My family and I have gone many times growing up and my sister and I both participated in the Disney College program when we were in college. I participated in the Summer 2000 program and worked at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. My sister and her old manager at Disney hooked me up to work at that location. I needed an internship for my Hotel and Restaurant bachelor's degree and working at Disney was perfect!

Anyways, I know Avery is a little young but we would like to have another baby and I don’t want to have to wait a few more years to go. I think Avery is going to love it, especially the parades. I can’t really think of another vacation spot she would like more. I was looking into Sesame Place, near Philly but when all was said and done, it was going to cost only a little more for Disney World. We can't really go to a beach for a week because Avery would most likely just burn. This is another reason why we are going in April instead of July or August..it won't be as hot or crowded.

A lot has changed since I last visited Disney in 2002. You now need to book your Disney Dining reservations and fast passes months in advance..luckily I have my trusty Disney travel agent, my sister, to help me book everything. She called me the other day at 6am to tell me there was a dining reservation open at one of the restaurants I wanted to go to. Only 37 more days, but who's counting?

Steak n Shake is my favorite! I love their hotdogs!
