Day 28 at Home- February 6, 2013

Avery had an appointment with Infant Nutrition yesterday. They were very happy with her weight gain. I believe she weighed 7lbs 12oz when she was there 2 weeks ago and yesterday she weighed 8lbs 8oz. They gave us a different Dr Browns bottle to try out. They also want us to really pace Avery when she is eating. She is supposed to take 2-3 sips and then we pull the bottle down and give her a break for a few seconds. The reason we do this is because Avery will take a sip and not swallow it right away. She would keep taking sips, not swallow it and then she would get overwhelmed when she had too much formula in her mouth. I also told them that sometimes when we go to feed her, she has no interest in the bottle. They asked if it seemed like she was tired from bottle feeding the time before. I told them it just seems like she isn't hungry sometimes. They said that it is much harder for her and takes more energy for her to suck since she has a cleft palate so she might be too tired to suck at every feeding. The next few days they want us to try bottle feeding her at every other feeding. If it seems like it is the case of her getting tired, they want us to switch back to the Haberman bottle with the valve on it and we will squeeze the formula into her mouth instead of her sucking it out on her own. We have a follow up appointment with them in 3 weeks.

Avery's surgeon, Dr Seifarth, is the one who put the g tube in. He was named one of the Most Beautiful Doctors in America by the show "Doctors". They made a calendar and all of the proceeds go to the American Heart Association. He is Mr. April.  Just a FYI, he really is quite beautiful in person too, lol.  Here are two different video clips about him. And by the way, we didn't select him because he was beautiful, the appointment was made for us by the NICU.

I am actually wearing pants today. It doesn't happen often because it's hard for Mommy and Daddy to tube feed me when I am wearing a onesie. It's much easier for them to just undo a snap on a sleeper.

Mommy and Daddy highly recommend anyone who is pregnant to get a video monitor. It's so neat, they can see me anywhere in the house. They can even hook it up to the TV and watch me on TV. I am a star!

It was naptime yesterday at the Svitak household

Mommy accidentally left her bedroom door open and Lily was sleeping in my bed! Mommy told me not to worry, that this would never happen again. (Yes, I need to sleep propped up like that because of my reflux)
