We could not wait for our 20 week ultrasound on July 18. We were so excited to find out if baby Svitak was going to be a boy or a girl. We decided to make a day out of it. We both took off of work, we were going to go to the doctor's appointment, go out to lunch, and then start registering for baby items.
We were informed that baby Svitak was going to be a girl. I started crying. I didn't cry because I was happy or sad that she was a girl. I cried because we finally knew what she was and didn't have to call her "it" any longer.
Then the bad news came. During the 20 week ultrasound, they always measure all the parts of the body, making sure they are measuring correctly with the gestational age. They told us our daughter's cerebellum was measuring at 17 weeks when the rest of her body was measuring at 19 weeks. They said she could possibly have cerebellar hypoplasia. I made the mistake of googling it. Needless to say, it was NOT good news. Our exciting day had just turned sad and depressing. We were to return for a repeat ultrasound in two weeks to see if the cerebellum had grown.
